A beloved Mexican wedding dress becomes a vibrant piece of wearable art in this one-of-a-kind creation. Originally an elegant white, I hand-dyed the entire dress a rich, expressive purple, allowing the natural variations and little imperfections of the dyeing process to become part of its handmade character.
The front remains beautifully simple, letting the saturated purple and traditional detailing of the dress take center stage. But turn it around, and the story comes alive.
The back is adorned with one of my most personal and favorite original designs—my Piña Family Tree, reproduced on fabric and hand-sewn by me onto the dress. Bursting with flowers, hearts, doves, color and joyful symbolism, the tree grows from a pineapple at its base. Piña is Spanish for pineapple—and Piña was my mother’s maiden name, making this whimsical tree a celebration of family roots, heritage and love.
I especially love the hand stitching around the artwork—the visible stitches are intentionally part of its artisan spirit. Nothing about this piece is meant to feel factory-perfect. Its beauty is in the hand of the artist.
Purple Piña is colorful, soulful and wonderfully imperfect—a little family history transformed into art you can wear.
