Who we are, why we learn the way we do, why we think the way we do, why our name is what it is, .... are gifts that make us so wonderful. What we have in our hearts, is truly why we are so incredibly special!

SAMPLE CURRICULUM EXTENSIONS
Being different is exciting!
  • Enjoy art-making projects in which students draw their body parts and what is exciting and different about theirs.

  • Have students research their name – it’s meaning & different variations, why they were given their name, who they were named after, etc….

  • Have children paint a picture and/or poem describing their name

  • Have a student Show & Tell of something special to them (collection, pet, book, toy,…).

  • Following a discussion on “diversity”, they can make and then release kits on which they have written their ideas.

  • Invite a family member to share with the class about family traditions surrounding a particular holiday or celebration.

  • Students write and share a short story of ‘why being different can be exciting!’.

  • Using an array of common words or phrases, let children discuss differences and similarities.

  • Students can celebrate being incredibly special by creating a poem for each other (or a particular classmate on his/her birthday), using the first letter of his/her name to list nice words that describe him/her. This makes a great valentine class project!
